Leonard Brooks III
Vice Chairman
Mr. Brooks is Vice Chairman of TECHNE, LLC. His primary responsibilities include advising the company on appropriate financial structuring of real estate finance, education, and health care operations. On a daily basis he also manages TECHNE’s relationships with banks, private equity firms, and merchant banks.
He is a senior financial professional with over 25 years of Wall Street experience completing over 200 transactions involving capital funding or advisory assignments. In addition to completing over 150 private issuances of equity, he has completed numerous public equity offerings, public and private debt offerings as well as mergers and acquisitions for companies in a wide variety of industries. He has founded and managed a number of investment banking initiatives including: Goldman Sach’s Private Equity Finance Group, UBS’s Private Equity Placement Group, PaineWebber’s Private Capital Group, and Salomon Smith Barney’s Commercial Real Estate Group. He has also been an active investor in a wide range of private equity and special situation opportunities.
Currently, Mr. Brooks serves on the Board of Directors or as Senior Advisor to several firms including COMAC funds (a $5 + Billion Global Macro Hedge Fund), NMTV (a privately held internet based media company) UnXis (the only hardware vendor neutral Unix operating system provider) and Well-Ally (an early-stage health and wellness enterprise). Mr. Brooks also serves on the William and Mary University School of Business Foundation Board.
Mr. Brooks served as Managing Director of Goldman Sachs & Company from 2007-2009 where he established and managed the Private Equity Finance Group which during his tenure raised of $18 billion of capital for growth and restructuring transactions including: Financial Services, Industrial, Consumer, Technology and Financial Business Services.
Mr. Brooks has also served as Vice Chairman of Trenwith Securities (an Affiliate of BDO), Managing Director and Head of UBS’s Private Equity Group where he was involved in over $7.6 billion of transactions for clients in North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
Mr. Brooks also was co-founder of the private equity operation at Deutsche Bank. Prior to assuming this position he served as Vice President of the Merrill Lynch Private Equity Group.
Mr. Brooks has extensive experience in a number of different industry sectors including: energy services, communications services, healthcare services, information technology, and telecommunications.
Mr. Brooks is a graduate of the Fuqua School of Business of Duke University receiving an M.B.A Degree. He holds an undergraduate degree from the College of William & Mary. He continues to serve this institution as a member of its Business School Foundations Board of Directors.
